Every December, San Clemente does something that's hard to fake: it feels like a small town at Christmas. The pier gets lit, Avenida Del Mar fills with people, and a few neighborhoods turn their streets into a destination. If you are new to town, or you are moving here for the holidays, a lights tour and a downtown night are a great way to feel at home.
This guide covers what we could confirm, what we could only find from past years and what you should check before you go. We rely on official sources first: the City of San Clemente's events calendar, the Outlets at San Clemente and Casa Romantica. Where we use local news or a roundup, we say so. We are writing this in October, so many December dates are not published yet.
What is the big holiday night in San Clemente?
It is Puttin' on the Glitz, part of Santa's Village by the Sea, hosted by the City of San Clemente and the San Clemente Downtown Business Association. Avenida Del Mar becomes the centre of the evening, and the city-hosted part takes place at the Community Center.
In 2024 it was held on Saturday, December 7, and local coverage describes Santa arriving at 4:30 p.m. in a vintage convertible with a fire engine escort, the traditional tree lighting at the Community Center, carolers, vendor booths, decorated storefronts, a silent disco on Avenida Del Mar and, at the Community Center, a sledding hill, crafts and visits with Santa. The same coverage notes free transportation from the SC Trolley and a shuttle from San Clemente High School. The City's 2025 listing gives the most recent official schedule: Saturday, December 6, 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., with the Santa procession and visits at 4:30, the tree lighting, Snow Hill and festivities at the Community Center (100 N. Calle Seville) from 5:00 to 8:00, and downtown shops and vendors open until 9:00. Attending is free, and an activity wristband for the Community Center was $12 presale or $15 on the day, with a 25% discount for residents. Wristbands were sold through the City's recreation catalog, and the Downtown Business Association's Glitz page covers the Del Mar side.
| Detail | What we found | How sure are we? |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Puttin' on the Glitz at Santa's Village by the Sea | Confirmed in local coverage |
| Organizers | City of San Clemente and the Downtown Business Association | Confirmed in local coverage |
| Where | Avenida Del Mar and the Community Center | Confirmed for past years |
| Usual timing | First Saturday of December (Dec 7, 2024; Dec 6, 2025) | Pattern from past years |
| 2026 date | Not announced when we checked. The first Saturday of December 2026 is December 5 | Unconfirmed. Check the City and the DBA |
| Typical schedule | Santa about 4:30 p.m., tree lighting about 5:00 p.m., evening activities | From the City's 2025 listing. May change |
| Cost (2025) | Free to attend. Community Center wristband $12 presale, $15 day-of | From the City's 2025 listing. 2026 prices unconfirmed |
If you are going, plan to park early or use the shuttle. Downtown parking fills quickly on big nights, and Avenida Del Mar is pedestrian-focused for the evening. The City also runs the San Clemente Trolley, and its 2025 listing linked the trolley map for event night. Bring a jacket, because the coast cools down fast after the sun sets.
Where can you see Christmas lights in San Clemente?

San Clemente does not have one famous street the way some cities do. Most displays are on private streets and homes, and they change from year to year. The most useful list we found is an Orange County holiday roundup that was updated in October 2026. For San Clemente it names three places: two Talega neighborhoods and one home.
| Display | Type | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Talega, Seaside neighborhood | Neighborhood | No address listed. See our Talega guide for the area |
| Talega, Stella Mare neighborhood | Neighborhood | No address listed. Drive slowly and park legally |
| 2931 Calle Heraldo | Single home | Marked as verified for the season by the list. Respect the residents |
We have not driven these, and displays can change or stop from one year to the next, so treat the list as a starting point. A reader comment on the same list mentions a beach-cottage display near West Canada, but it dates from 2015 and nobody has verified it, so we left it out.
The easiest way to find the current favorites is to ask. Neighbors, the Downtown Business Association and local Facebook and Nextdoor groups usually have the latest tips by the first week of December. If you want a neighborhood that gets into the spirit, the planned communities of Talega and Forster Ranch tend to have street-wide displays, and our neighborhood guides cover what each area is like.
What about Casa Romantica and other holiday events?
Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, at 415 Avenida Granada, runs holiday events including Christmas Nights at the Casa, a ticketed evening of lights in its gardens. Its events page currently lists several December dates, but the weekdays do not line up with 2026 (it shows Christmas Nights on a Thursday, December 11, which matches 2025). That suggests the page still shows last year's dates, so confirm with Casa Romantica at (949) 498-2139 before you buy tickets.
| Event | Date shown | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Christmas Nights @ the Casa | Thu, Dec 11, 5 to 7 p.m. | Ticketed. Check the venue for prices |
| Nutcracker | Dec 3, 7 to 9 p.m. | Confirm the 2026 date |
| Teddy Bear Christmas Tea | Dec 5, 2:30 p.m. | Confirm the 2026 date |
| Free Family Sundays: Christmas Open House | Dec 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Confirm the 2026 date |
Two other events turn up in past coverage: a tree lighting at the Outlets at San Clemente, and Sunsets with Santa on the pier on select December Sundays in the afternoon. We could not confirm either for 2026. Watch the Outlets' events page and the city calendar.

Are there good displays in nearby towns?
If you want more lights in one drive, the same roundup lists displays in neighboring towns that locals head to. These come from the list and we have not checked them ourselves.
| Town | Display | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Dana Point | Monarch Beach homes, Calle Fortuna, 33652 Street of the Blue Lantern | Marked verified for the season on the list |
| San Juan Capistrano | 31192 Calle Del Campo, the Crazy Christmas House | Not marked verified |
| Laguna Niguel | Nellie Gail Road, Elder Court, Hillhurst, 26041 Spur Branch Lane | Several marked verified for the season |
These are 10 to 25 minute drives from San Clemente depending on traffic on the 5 and Pacific Coast Highway. A short loop, one town per evening, makes a good family outing.
What are the best tips for a lights tour?
- Go on a weeknight. Popular streets are busiest on weekends and the Saturday before Christmas.
- Drive slowly with your windows down. It is the best way to hear the music some displays play, and it keeps you safe near pedestrians.
- Park legally and do not block driveways. Many displays are on residential streets with narrow parking.
- Respect the residents. Do not walk on lawns, and keep noise low late in the evening.
- Dress for the coast. Even a mild day can turn cool and damp once the sun is down.
- Check the day before. Displays and events change. A quick look at the city calendar or a local group saves a wasted trip.
Is December a good time to look at homes?
It can be a useful time. Fewer buyers shop during the holidays, which can mean less competition on homes that are listed. It is also a chance to see a street at its most lived-in. Whether prices or negotiating room are different is something to check against current data, not assume, and our market update explains how to read the numbers.
If you are buying, our buying guide walks through the process, and our moving guide covers what to plan for. You can also see what is on the market now from Alex's San Clemente listing search.
